Detailed view: Our investigations in Australia

22.08.2017 | Inspection of Muchea Saleyard

Sheep with Scabby Mouth, Saleyard Australia

Animals’ Angels attend Muchea where just over 12000 sheep and lambs are for sale.

The recognition that sheep with painful conditions are not fit to transport appears to be lacking. Despite our requests the sheep is killed at the saleyard, a sheep with scabby mouth which is both highly contagious and painful was permitted to be transported from the yard to a facility that slaughters for pet food. Sheep unable to bear weight are left behind by drivers but assessed as fit to load by staff at the yard. Again they are transported to the facility that slaughters for pet food.  We will include this in our report.
