11.12.2017 | Visiting Calf Sale at Warragul Saleyard

Calf Sale at Warragul Saleyard, Australia

Animals’ Angels visits Warragul calf sale to check on compliance to the legislation on fit to sell and load, handling, transport and collection of bobby calves.

All of the 71 small calves for sale today are fit to be sold, although many look like they need feeding.

Most trailers are acceptable although we speak with one or two people to ask for more ventilation or protection from wind for the vulnerable animals.

We observe a farmer lifting calves by their tails, so we ask the selling agent to remind their client lifting calves by their tails is unacceptable and must not be done. The agent tells us they have spoken to the farmer. We arrange for a box of booklets on diary calves be sent to the facility for farmers. The booklet outlines legal requirements for those handling animals.
