India's street cattle, the "plastic cows"

Many urban residents also keep cows that roam the streets in search of something edible during the day. India’s streets are full of rubbish. Thus cows often ingest plastic when they find leftovers.

The plastic gets stuck in the cows’ complex digestive system. Many of the cows suffer from swollen stomachs and green nasal discharge.

The only way to help these animals is an expensive, risky operation that most owners cannot afford to pay. Many of these animals die a painful death with a big clump of plastic in their stomachs.

Operations on 'plastic cows'

Animals' Angels supports VSPCA to carry out operations on 'plastic cows'. The complicated surgeries are carried out by a special veterinarian who has to travel far to get to the VSPCA shelters. Animals' Angels bears the costs for several operations and the housing of the animals in the VSPCA Shelter.
